Configuring Using the Internet Setup Assistant

To run the Internet Setup Assistant, click on the Apple Menu in the upper left-hand corner of your screen. Click on Internet Access -> Internet Setup Assistant. A window will pop up asking you if you would like to set up your computer to be connected to the Internet. Click Yes to go on to the next screen.

Here it will ask you if you already have an Internet account. Click on Yes. The next screen is an introduction screen. Just click on the arrow pointing to the right to go onto the next screen.

Here you'll be asked what you want to name the configuration. Type in AcroNet Internet. For how you will connect, Select Modem, then click on the right arrow.

For the modem type, select the modem that you are using. For example: Imac Internal modem. If you are not sure what type of modem you are using, consult your computer's manual. For the Port, select the port your modem is connected to. Again, if you are unsure, consult your computer's manual. Most phone systems use touch tone dialing, so select tone unless you know your phone system is different. Click on the right arrow to go to the next screen.

Where it asks you for the phone number for the configuration, enter your AcroNet Internet Local Access Number. -Do NOT type in your home phone number here. As always, remember to check with the phone company to ensure that the number will be a local call from your business or residence. AcroNet Internet is not responsible for any long distance charges incurred when using this service.

For the log-in name, fill in your login. For the password, fill in your login password. The password is case sensitive, so make sure you type it in lower case and that your caps lock key is off. Click on the right arrow to proceed.

Here it will ask if you need to a PPP Connect Script. Select No and click on the right arrow again.

Choose No for where it asks if you have an IP address. Click on the right arrow.

In the blank where it asks for the DNS addresses, put in 66.102.117.6 Hit return, then type in 207.7.4.66 For the Domain Name, fill in acronet.net. Click on the right arrow.

For the E-Mail address, put in login name@acronet.net (Example: johndoe@acronet.net. On the line below, fill in your E-Mail password (this is usually the same as your login password). Leave the quoting character as is and go on to the right arrow again.

This screen will ask you for your E-Mail account. This is not your E-Mail address. It should be your login name@mail.acronet.net (for example, johndoe@mail.acronet.net). For the E-Mail host, put in mail.acronet.net. Click on the right arrow.

For the Newsgroup Host Computer, fill in news.acronet.net. Once again, click on the right arrow.

Select No on this screen where it asks you if you use a proxy server. Click on the right arrow once more.

This will get you to a conclusion screen. Uncheck the Connect When Finished option, and then click on Go Ahead.

You've now configured your Macintosh for the Internet! To use the Internet, just click on the Browse The Internet icon on the desktop. This will open Internet Explorer. To get your mail, click on the Mail icon on the desktop. This will open the Outlook Express mail program.
