Configuring Netscape for Email
To configure the mail settings in Netscape Communicator, you will need to be in the program. Once you are in the program, you will click on Edit -> Preferences. A window will appear with many configuration settings. You will want to choose to expand the "Mail & Newsgroups" category, by clicking on the "+" or the arrow next to this option. This will present you with many other options to choose from. You’ll want to single click on the "Identity" category, and you will be presented with a screen that contains the following information:
|
Your name: |
Your name should be entered here (ex: Jonathan Doe) |
|
E-Mail Address: |
Your E-Mail address should be entered here (ex: johndoe@acronet.net) |
|
Reply-To Address: |
This should be left blank. |
|
Organization: |
This can be left blank, or can have your business or organization name. |
|
Signature file: |
This option is for you to decide if you would like a signature file attached to the end of all your E-Mails. Typically, though, this is option left blank. |
Next, you’ll want to click on the "Mail Server" category. The window that comes up depends on the version of Netscape you’re using.
For Netscape 4.5x and 4.6x
Go to the Incoming Mail Server, and Select ADD, or if there is already something filled in for the Incoming Mail Server, click on Edit. If you can not click on the Add or the Edit button, click on the Choose button, then on Cancel right away, and you should then be able to click on Edit.

Otherwise, your mail will be left on AcroNet.net’s server until there is too much mail, causing various problems.
Click Ok and fill in the blanks below as described.

Make sure the "Leave messages on Server" is NOT checked unless you have a reason to use that feature (for example, checking mail for the same account from more than one computer). If you have this checked, your mail will be left on AcroNet.net’s server, and it could eventually accumulate too much mail, causing various problems.
After you have completed this, you can click on the "OK" button. You have successfully configured the mail portion of Netscape Communicator.
