based upon the following charter:
NAME: The Institute for Hungarian Studies (henceforth IHS,
or "the Institute") contains as its basic tenets the following:
- As an institute for Hungarian studies, IHS will be occupied
solely with subjects concerning Hungarian cultural heritage, the
encouragement of research in Hungarian issues, and the dissemination
of knowledge gained. Research shall encompass all fields of related
sciences, such as archaeology, anthropology, ethnography, music,
dance, history, and all related fields of study.
- Each member of the Institute will actively pursue the goals
of the Institute.
GOALS:
- Short term: to promote awareness of the evidence of Hungarian
origins within the Carpathian basin.
- Long term: ongoing collection of data concerning Hungarian culture,
primarily from within the Carpathian homeland and secondarily
from the regions of subsequent cultural expansion.
FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES:
- The discussion of Hungarian history based on original source
materials.
- facts of Hungarian presence in the Carpathian basin
since prehistoric times.
- secondary homes beyond the Carpathian valley.
- The finding and cataloging of Hungarian basic historical works
outside of her territory, such as
- the Hungarian writings collected by the Vatican and
remaining in their custody.
- all historical documents that were sold out by the
recent communist regime to western libraries.
- To give information to the Hungarian public of all research
pertaining to their cultural heritage.
- To find and translate works concerning Hungarian history which
will enable Hungarian scholars to place these findings within
historical framework.
- To help to bring about a young scholar generation unhampered
by outdated methods of research.
- To publish the findings in a periodic journal of Hungarian
Studies (referred to henceforth as Journal). This Journal will
be published in both Hungarian and English.
- To help preserve and cultivate the Hungarian language.
- To help standardize new Hungarian words covering subjects
specific to our century. These will be submitted to a committee
of linguists for discussion and incorporation into the
officially accepted dictionaries.
